Property owners in Plattsburgh are supposed to shovel snow from sidewalks adjacent to their properties.
This property owner has been doing his duty, keeping the sidewalk bare in front of his building that sits next door to the Press-Republican offices.
But the stretch of sidewalk in front of the Press-Republican has been rough traveling for pedestrians the last few days. The trampled down snow is uneven and can be slippery. While sidewalks on the PR lot have been shoveled for the benefit of its employees, the public sidewalk has received minimal (if any) attention.
Bear in mind that the PR has published editorials scolding people for not shoveling public sidewalks.

Happy New Year Luke!
What's more, they are just a block from City Hall. Who is the City Center Ward Councilor? The Spitter?
I'm pretty sure that there are no active walkers or cyclists at the Press Republican.
I think the city should offer bounties for reporting taxable sidewalk-clearing. Or maybe some of the many unemployed could freelance shoveling and get a percentage of the fine.
We could create jobs, help our city finances, and aid pedestrians at the same time.

And speaking of City Hall being so near to the PR, see the new post I just put up called "Comparison."
