A Great Day For Planting

 

PLATTSBURGH CITY, NY   5/27/25

On a warm sunny afternoon Ryan Casey is busy planting the garden wall beds.  Until four years ago the city neglected the garden beds at the parking lot near the end of Court Street.  Litter like banana peels and soda cans were tossed on the bare unused soil.  The only plants that grew were weeds.  Ryan and his friend Jesse took it upon themselves to beautify the spots, planting and maintaining tomato plants and flowers.  This year Ryan is handling the project alone his after his friend Jesse moved away.

The large garden bed near the Champlain Monument supported flowers and milkweed.  The area has been mowed down.  At least the sign about native plants is still standing.

When I shot this image I ended up with a distracting background.  Using Affinity Photo 2 photo-editor I deleted the background and then filled it in so it looks like it was taken in a studio with a black backdrop.
