Progress




At least one downtown establishment in Plattsburgh decided to fix up its deteriorating façade, replacing moldy molding with fresh material. Even though the upgraded molding hasn’t been painted yet, it looks a lot better than the dry-rotted crap that was falling all over the sidewalk.

Now if only other building owners would follow this example, especially when they house businesses that are offering classy services…

Hi Luke,

I think these two blog posts (this one and "A Classy Entrance" below) do a good job looking at the tug of war between downtown improvement/maintenance and downtown decay. Which side is winning? Many properties look decrepit and derelict as described in your previous post. Yet, amidst the ruins, there's fresh lumber being put in to replace rotted doorsteps and a new arts center being built.

Which side will ultimately win?
